Lamborghini reveals its first hybrid supercar: The Sian
The car is the Italian automaker’s most powerful, with 819 horsepower. Only 63 Sians will be made to honor Lamborghini’s founding year and each will cost $3.6 million. All are already spoken for.
Ahead of its official Frankfurt Auto show debut, Lamborghini has revealed the Sian, the Italian supercar maker’s first hybrid vehicle. Sian means flash of lightning in the Sant’Agata automaker’s Bolognese Italian dialect — an apt name for a car that’s also the company’s most powerful creation. The Sian’s heart is the same 6.5-liter V12 engine used in the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ with an added twist — electricity.
The new Lamborghini employs a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to add 34 electric horsepower into the mix, bringing the total to 819 horsepower. Those numbers also...
BMW's i subbrand launched the i3, a full-electric city car with an ultralightweight carbon fiber frame, in 2013. BMW showed that it will continue to push the subbrand to new levels when it previewed the iNext, in September. One particularly interesting bit regarded the shooting brake, which Nurnberger said, "we sort of started it and then realized to make a really good shooting brake we had to do a lot more engineering." Thus, the long-roof Vanquish actually has a longer wheelbase than the rest of the cars. According to Nunberger, the rear of the car is taken from a modular platform and is essentially a rear of a Rapide that has been added on. Of course, that required total reengineering, retesting, as well as re-crashing to bring it to production......
